In this production we are brought along on the adventure of a hapless wanderer who stumbles upon the circus and decides it is in his destiny to be in the ring.

This show features juggling, physical comedy, classic sideshow stunts like sword swallowing, audience participation, live original music, acrobatics, and (upon site inspection to determine feasibility) amazing aerial performances on trapeze, “silks”, or rope. Enter the most unlikely setting for a circus, a factory. One where the workers are acrobats and the machines are circus props. A place where spectators will watch a contortionist perform on a turntable powered by unicyclists, they will be captivated by the trapeze artist flying high thanks to the spins of an acrobat inside a giant gear-like wheel and they will be stunned when the trampoline wall artists defy the laws of physics by walking on air. All the while they will be giggling at the antics of the comedic characters, impressed by the acro-dancing and enchanted by the story of laughter, love, flight and birdhouses.

Brave Space is a blanket fort, a hoopskirt, an impulsive congregation in the tiniest of tents. Inspired by the idea of creating community in trying times, it begins as a puddle of fabric and grows to encompass a world of wondrous circus. Intimate and low tech, the audience sits nose-to-nose with a female cast of bold acrobats to build the world we want to live in, even for only a few shared moments. Deeply intimate, Brave Space requires 100% trust between the performers and the audience who physically construct the show and keep the artists aloft.

We are a theatrical tented circus. Our core show is in a tent that seats about 1,100 people, and has performed each June for the last 37 years in St. Louis. It’s a charming show — a mix of a children’s cartoon, and a world-class circus; a mix of traditional circus acts, modern and contemporary artists, brilliant comedians, and a fun-loving theatrical aesthetic. We’ve also partnered with symphonies, created shows on stage, and performed for private events.

Goodbye Party is an evening-length work of physical theater set in the offices of the going-out-of-business Earth the Planet, LLC. As the corporation collapses, the multi-species staff congregate for a final farewell to the planet they call their office. This captivating 45-minute circus show will take you on a whimsical journey inside the human body, with featured performances in dog tricks, trapeze, juggling, and German wheel. Based on the poem “The Anatomy of Peace” by John Roedel, “It Takes Guts” shares what it’s like to be human via a combination of dynamic, high-level acrobatic skills with physical comedy, custom-produced music, and giant puppets.

The name of this contemporary circus, Minty Fresh Circus, is inspired by our Afrofuturistic Muse, abolitionist and conductor of the Underground Railroad, Harriet Araminta Tubman (nicknamed Minty). Africans who were stolen, transported to the USA, and forced into chattel slavery have shapeshifted and recreated themselves over and over as a survival technique, thus becoming perpetually Fresh. Minty Fresh Circus, Conceived by Monique Martin, celebrates and investigates the power of American Black music as a healing, alchemical, and transformative force. This circus is an examination of African musical traditions and culture, of the transatlantic slave trade to the Americas, and the communication devices used amongst enslaved Africans. What does FREEDOM feel like if your only access to it is through your imagination?
